Griha Pravesh Pooja
What is Grihapravesh Puja?
Grihapravesh Puja (गृहप्रवेश पूजा) is a sacred Hindu ritual performed to mark the auspicious beginning of living in a newly constructed or purchased house. The word Grihapravesh literally means “entering the house.” The ceremony includes various Vedic rituals and homas, primarily to purify the space and invoke blessings of deities for peace, prosperity, and well-being.
There are three main types of Grihapravesh:
• Apoorva Grihapravesh – First entry into a newly built home.
• Sapoorva Grihapravesh – Entry into a home after returning from abroad or a long stay elsewhere.
• Dwandwah Grihapravesh – Entry after renovations or after recovering from calamities.
Why to Do Grihapravesh Puja?
To cleanse the home of negative energies or unseen influences that may have accumulated during construction.
• To seek the blessings of Vastu Purusha, the deity of space, and ensure harmony in the new environment.
• To invoke divine protection from misfortunes, accidents, or health issues.
• To express gratitude to Mother Earth (Bhoomi Devi), the five elements (Pancha Tattvas), and all deities.
• To create an auspicious environment for the family to begin a new chapter of life.
Significance of Grihapravesh Puja
• The Puja aligns the energy of the house with Vastu Shastra principles, balancing natural energies.
• Performing the Homa (fire ritual) during Grihapravesh purifies the surroundings and brings in positive vibrations.
• It helps in removing doshas (faults) in structure and pleases the grahas (planets) for astrological harmony.
• Spiritually, it is a samskara (sacred rite) that sanctifies the dwelling and integrates spiritual consciousness into domestic life.
• It ensures the house becomes a source of happiness, growth, and dharmic living for the family
